Maysie Murphy Harris County, VA Shooting Obituary-Death: Crosby Woman Charged with Murder after Fatal Shooting Inside Home

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded late in the evening to a report of a shooting at a home located in the 17800 block of Adlong Johnson Road near U.S. Highway 90. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim, identified as 21-year-old Maysie Murphy, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later confirmed that a woman, identified as Courtney Smith (DOB 05/05/1971), was taken into custody and formally charged with murder in connection with Murphy’s death. Authorities stated that Smith herself initiated a 911 call reporting that she had killed her granddaughter and the granddaughter’s boyfriend; however, investigators later determined that no male victim was found at the residence.

Law enforcement officials also reported that Smith had made earlier emergency calls during the day in which she allegedly claimed she was “seeing demons.” These statements are now part of the ongoing investigation as detectives attempt to better understand her mental state and the events leading up to the shooting.

Detectives from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division, along with crime scene investigators, processed the residence and collected evidence as part of their initial response.
